Furling
« on: 20 Oct 2007, 12:34 »
I'm still looking and thinking about which boat would suit me and am impressed with the Swallow boat range particularly the Bayraider. I can see a lot of thought has gone into the design of the boat and the self-tacking jib is a clever idea but what does one do about furling the jib? With the self-taking pole one wouldn't be able to take advantage of the furling systems?

No - the roller furling works with the self tacking jib. It is a very simple system, from the furled state simply pull on one line to unfurl the jib and cleat off on a jamming cleat on the jib boom, and when furling simply reverse the process. When the jib is furled the boom lies slack on the foredeck. It is of course only only roller furling not reefing. I have only managed a couple of weeks sailing my BayRaider since delivery so wouldn't claim any expertise on the subject but if there is anything else I can help on please ask.
