Anti-torsion cable
« on: 02 Apr 2015, 14:51 »
Does anyone know of a rigging company that will make up an anti-torsion cable for me?  It has to have 8mm Karver lashing thimbles top and bottom to fit my Karver KSF1 top-down furler.

I used Allspars for the first version of the cable and despite giving them very exact specifications and their claim to be Karver specialists, they:
- Gave me the wrong length
- Fitted thimbles to the ends around 9mm cable that was too wide for the furler and swivel jaws

So, I won't be using them again and would recommend that no-one else does either.  I have tried three other companies (one in the Netherlands) and so far, haven't had a response.  I've even considered making one myself but can't find anyone who sells the correct diameter cable in lengths of less than 100m!

Spoke to English braids last year and they eventually agreed to sell me their version of anti torsion rope, on the basis that no rigging companies to offend in the Midlands. Didn't go ahead due to justifying the cost of the furler.

That was 8mm and they quoted about £90 if I remember rightly, supply of maTerials  only.

I was looking at half a mtr spare after feeding through the thimble and lashing the tail to the torsion rope

I eventually got an 8mm anti-torsion cable with Karver aluminium thimbles from these people in the Netherlands http://www.tunedrigs.com.  They were professional, helpful and produced exactly what I asked for to a high standard (and better than I could have done myself).

I received no reply from the two UK rigging companies who claim to do this sort of thing.  Taken together with my experience of UK-based Allspars, you can probably draw your own conclusions.
