BR20 Gladys for Sale
« on: 15 Apr 2021, 09:31 »
I am sadly selling Gladys to make time and resources available for new boat projects and adventures.

Since buying Gladys new in 2009 she has been an outstandingly versatile, successful and enjoyable boat, not least because of the great company I have sailed her with.

Amongst other activities I have cruised and camped in the Inner and Outer Hebrides, Clyde, Milford Haven and Denmark to Norway.  Usually with a world-class nut on the helm and determined crew she has won many races in Sail Caledonia and Swallow Boat Raids - and a few discrete modifications, mentioned elsewhere on this forum, helped!  And she has been a lot of fun on gentle days out with family and friends, mostly on Bala and Ullswater.

Photos and video clips can be viewed at:

Please note some photographs taken on Sail Caledonia are shown by kind permission of Kathy Mansfield and should not be reproduced without her approval.

If you would like more information to buy Gladys please contact Swallow Yachts Brokerage https://swallowyachts.com/brokerage/ for details.

I shall hopefully continue to sail in other boats in company with the many friends I have made through Swallow Boat rallies including the Ullswater meeting 9th-11th July this summer.

Gladys is now for sale directly from myself, not SY Brokerage, and at a realistic price to the right buyer for £11,000.

For more information please contact me directly at BR20forsale@gmail.com or message me on this forum.

Incidentally, Gladys with her gunter main and self-tacking jib frequently out-sailed boats with Bermuda rigs as can be seen in the photograph below.

Boris told me that he came to Mylor to check out Gladys, as he was sorely tempted by her fine lines (no surprises there).  Imagine his disappointment when he found that you hadn’t brought her.  To make things worse, he then had to return to Carbis Bay for another round of arguments with President Macron.  About sausages.

A poem for Gladys

So. Farewell then Gladys.
Off Fort William,
not long after I met you,
you showed me your bottom.
Not only the Scots
wear nothing underneath.

With apologies to EJ Thribb

Mark,

I’m still hanging in there with Turaco (2010 vintage).  Not as much as I’d like but there we go.

The valedictory “poem” was for Matthew’s Gladys.  He’s got a wandering eye when it comes to boats.

Hi Graham

Below is the view of Gladys most usually seen from Turaco.

I'd like to thank my Swallow Boat friends for the fun I've had with Gladys since 2009 and I hope to be sailing Hilda and other boats in your excellent company for a long time yet.

I know you'll give Mike, Gladys's new owner, a warm welcome.

Best wishes

Matthew
