Swallow Raid 2023

<< < (2/3) > >>

Sea Simon:
Still on the E arm in mylor, along with Liberty Belle and still waters...no escape likely before noon Sunday by the looks of things?

If it's any consolation to those of you stuck in the miserable traffic the radio is reporting (seems a lot of people are, unsurprisingly, headed up to home early today)...you did the right thing.
It was v lively night...with more to come. No damages/issues so far.

Glad I'm not in a tent!

Great raid, good competitive racing, and lovely to be able to put some faces to names.

Very many thanks to all those who clearly had put in so much work to allow us such a great time.

Nicky R:
Luckily our early escape on Friday morning meant we escaped the traffic, but not the rain and strong winds. (We’ve done the M5 enough times to know Fridays in July and August are horrible on nice days, never mind days like yesterday!) Hopefully no one else got too badly stuck in the traffic.

Thanks from us for another lovely raid. We really enjoyed the racing and the chatting after sailing and in the evenings. We hope those still on the pontoons survive the strong winds this weekend and manage to get home soon!

We will probably see you all in 2 years time, as it clashes with our daughter's birthday next year. Give us a shout if anyone fancies meeting upon the east coast (or elsewhere) before then!

Nicky

Sea Simon:
Roads just up from here will be worse today. Tomorrow too. To the N E of Truro.
A30 closed both directions, major improvements.

Mylor YC diamond jubilee regatta cancelled today.

garethrow:
Can confirm that the traffic yesterday afternoon on the M5 / A30 was not good. Took us 5.5hrs to do 150 miles to a halfway stop campsite at Clevdon. Like Simon, good to put some faces to names and had some great sailng. Thursday was particularly good with a fine reach all the way there and a broad reach all the way back - complete with a broken down roll on roll off cargo ship to dodge. Good luck to this still on the water in getting back to your home ports safely. Thank you all for your company.

Rob Johnstone:
Great Raid again. Many thanks to Lara for the organisation!
