Fine art indeed
« on: 23 Jun 2012, 22:02 »
I couldn't resist this. I moored in Wareham overnight last summer, and in the morning noticed a painter busy on his easel by the bridge. I had a look and saw that it was a good view of the river and my boat. I asked if he was selling it, and expected to hear that he would for a hundred pounds or so. He grinned and said his usual price was £3,000-4,000. I backed away rapidly. I have now seen that the picture is formally for sale at £6,250! Not only is Dasiy Grace in the foreground (looking a little narrow, dare I say) but I am pretty sure that is me hanging over the bridge parapet.
Would anyone like to buy me a present?

I'd love to, Julian. Unfortunately funds are a bit low at the moment. When my ship comes in...

Nice painting. But isn't it interesting how relatively few artists can depict sailing craft both accurately and artistically. (Same with steam locomotives.)
