Stern Repair - Rudder Mounts
« on: 16 Jun 2014, 09:04 »
I reluctantly write to tell of an incident on Saturday evening involving a parked speedboat , a snorkeller and a gaggle of kids fishing on my local jetty.
The end result was that the only injuries were to my pride and the stern of my BRe.  :'(

The boat was driven backwards onto the submerged jetty, and despite a loud crack, the damage seems to be only that the hull has cracked from each of the two top rudder mounting holes, up to the oval tiller hole in the hull.

Has anyone ever had similar damage?
I suspect I'm going to have to grind back some of the GRP to form a full repairable area that I can repair with glassfibre tape.

I won't know the full details until I strip the rudder off tonight, but any hints, tips , suggestions or sympathy would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron Dunbar

Ron,

I'm really sorry to hear this. It sounds like a painful crunch but I hope the damage isn't too deep. I can't offer any advice or experience but you have all my sympathy!

It sound to me like a job for vacuum bagging although I am no expert where that is concerned.

Glad no-one got hurt. You also have my sympathy for what it is worth.

Ron

Send Matt pictures of the damaged area and text description and he will spend the time to give instructions on repair and what materials to use.

We all "dink" our boats at some time.
