Title: Honda Engine

I got a 5 hp Honda engine for my BRE which is fine but the engine body is a bit bulky. When I left it up to prevent drag, The teller is not free to move from side to side. Is there a way to left this teller a bit higher?

I am in contact with the customer to try to ascertain why this happened, and to arrange a replacement mast for him as soon as possible.

I had the same issue with my 5HP Honda, but a small wedge epoxied to the underside of the tiller, between the tiller and the rudder stock, cured it.

Can you turn the tilted engine to one side to lower its profile? Preferably to the side that says "this way up". That works for my Mariner 6hp.

I'm using Brian's wedge solution to raise the tiller above my tilted Torqeedo but temporarily fixed in place rather than permanently.

Malheursement, It is not possible to tilt the engine when it is lifted up, but I shall try the wedge solution. Thanks

I have had a Honda 5hp for 4 yrs now. Never missed a beat and always starts second pull from cold. I added an extra runner to lift up the line that raises the rudder to lift it free of the engine cover but the tiller clears it with no mods. I did have a problem on the English raid after capsize when the outboard had jammed up much higher than its normal position with the prop fouling the tiller. This meant I could only turn one way which made sailing round to catch swimming crew member interesting. However with a bit of jiggling and force normal position of outboard was resumed. Oh and it started fine!

Glad all was well at the Raid. Passing me on the water was fine, passing me on the road on the way home, twice, was rather rubbing it in!

I trust you got home without trouble but I didn't like the look of the angle of your trailer wheels! Trouble was we were going so fast we had to refuel as you probably gathered. Good to see you and one of the best events to attend

I often wonder about the real weight of my total setup. I usually take the engine off when trailing, but didn't coming back from Cornwall. I probably should have. But all home and back in the shed without any drama.

Off subject but what the heck, 

Glad you both arrived back at respective bases o.k.  It was good to meet up at the raid.  Tim have you thought of writing up your swimming incident?  It has made me think about what point I might fill the tank in the future; I think that Julian sails with full tanks most of the time but it seems that many of us are reluctant to put the ballast in.

I do sail fully ballasted nearly all the time. I have found that single handed, there is little difference in performance full or empty. I only pumped out at the Raid because I seemed to have all the world and his dog on board most of the time, which was seriously weighing me down at t he back. I toyed with the idea of plugging the pipe between the forward and stern tanks and pumping out the latter, to see if it would improve trim, but couldn't find a big enough plug.
