Anyone contemplating Semaine du Golfe Morbihan and would prefer not to be single handed. It sounds a wonderfull event to take part in and hopefully should be warm. My Bayraider or your boat i'm happy.

Semaine du Golfe 2011

Im in!
Bring on the Moules frite, the Galettes and the Breton Cidre! ...and then there is the food you actually pay for!

Reminder:- When visiting French supermarkets take a bag with you. They are not always provided.
When visiting the Cheese Festival take a rucksack!

Oh, yes! When bringing cheese home to the UK put it in a Drybag - large PVC roll top types are quite cheap - otherwise expect trouble.  I had no end of bother with a drug squad sniffer dog when returning to Portsmouth, you know how Cocker Spaniels get when over stimulated! Damn thing ran off with 500g of ripe brie. "Im sorry, Sir. She only indicates like that with cocaine - usually!"

Claus

Seriously thinking of registering now for the Semaine du Golfe 2011 event, and i gather you are a seasoned veteran of this event, can i hear from you or please anyone else who would like to help me on usefull tips on planning for this event. I'm interested in learning from your experiences in all aspects of the planning for this trip, ferry deals, accomodation, what provisions to take, equipping the boat, etc, etc. It look's as if the water can get very busy with craft of all sizes, what "rules of the road" are observed is this standard maritime or racing rules (which i'm not familiar with).

Thanks in anticipation

Peter,
very little to say from my side. If you sign up for http://www.semainedugolfe.asso.fr/index.php?langue=gb&mod=&action= , they'll send you all info -in english- well ahead of the event, and you'll have no problem to get started with that. Ferries you'll have to find out yourself anyway, lots of choices there.

You now have the right boat for it and if you also do have the time and change, do take a leap and just go. You will not regret it.

Morbihan,
it'll become the biggest SwBs gathering outside the UK in 2011.

So far 6 BRs and one 1 CBL registered, in Flottille No. 3 alone. http://semainedugolfe.fr/index.php?mod=liste_bateau&id_flottille=3&ordre=nom_bateau&tri=asc

I added a regatta in Ireland to the 2011 list, the Glandore Classic, http://www.glandoreyc.com/ .
It is not a sail & oar raid as such, but Glandore is in one of the most beautiful settings on the south coast of Ireland, and the sailing and racing inside and outside the harbour is really superb. Nice people, classic boats and good wind always.
No absolute need to bring an own boat, loads of opportunities to hop on one of the participating boats for the day. Some nightlife too.
