Has anyone else had trouble with the boom wearing through the canvas along the top of the rearmost hoop of the spray hood on a BC23?  It must happen during tacking as the boom is clear of the stainless hoop even when close hauled and the worst wear is in the middle at the highest point of the hoop.
The spray hood is not left up when the boat is not in use and I don't use an excessive amount of kicker.  Nor is the mast raked back anymore than advised.  Once the main is reefed, there is no problem.
Has anyone thought of cutting a bit off the ends of the tubes to solve the problem or would that destroy the shape of the hood?

Hi Philip,

I have the same problem. Only when I raise the mainsail completely and with some force, whilst making sure the kicker and mainsheet are fully released when raising it, can I avoid the boom touching the sprayhood bar when tacking. I have not thought of shortening the tubes somewhat, but I'd have the same concern about the shape of the hood.
