Sailing around Morbihan

Does anyone have experience of sailing around Morbihan (Southern Brittany)? I’m thinking of towing Zephyr (BC26) via Plymouth-Roscoff in the summer, any suggestions on where to launch and base the boat for a couple of weeks would be very welcome.

Hi,

I live in France & my Baycruiser 23 is based in Lorient. I have lots of experience sailing between Brest and Pornic.

The best place to launch is opposite Lorient (Locmiquelic) roughly 1h45 - 2h from Roscoff. You are very close to the island - Groix, Belle Ile and the Golfe du Morbihan or you can also turn north to the Glenans Islands and Concarneau. Lots of small rivers to visit (Odet, Aven, Belon ...).

The marina at Locmiquelic has good launching facilities with a pontoon next to the launching slip. The staff at the marina are very friendly and helpful.

The concret slip is quite large, there is a good parking space to prepare the boat and it is not busy !

I also know a boat yard in Lorient where you can store your trailer.

The other launching sites south of Lorient (around the Golfe du Morbihan and La Trinité) are very busy during the summer period and parking is a real problem. Southern Finistère is another good option (Port La Foret) and you are a day's sail from the Morbihan

We took Sea Pig there two years ago and had a great time.

Like Nick we put the boat in at Pointe d'Arradon. They're very friendly but both times we used it the  slipway was busy with local dinghy sailors, perhaps because we went in the summer holidays. If/when we go again I'll probably try to find a slip somewhere a bit quieter.

This kayaking website lists places where you can put in your kayak. Most are obviously not relevant but the ones whose name starts with "Cale" are slipways.

I think we stayed on moorings most of the time, with a couple of nights run up the shore when the tide was right. The pontoons in Vannes are almost in the centre of town and surprisingly cheap if you're used to UK prices, we spent a couple of nights there.
