BC26 spinnaker (mast raising) pole corrosion
« on: 04 Jun 2021, 14:59 »
Hi all,

Fellow BC26 owners:    it is worth checking your spinnaker pole ( mast raising pole) for signs of corrosion around the screw/ end fittings.

My spinnaker pole cracked at the fitting end  when it was being used to raise the mast on my BC26  (the end attached to the deck eye).   It was under pressure, and perhaps the end hook was capsizing without my noticing.
However, the carbon fibre cracked where fitting was attached by a screw.    The screw etc is aluminium, so this is  a recipe for galvanic corrosion.  I keep the spinnaker pole tied on at the bow, where it would be exposed to spray etc.

Best,

Peter
