Woodenboat Magazine

If you can get hold of a copy of Woodenboat magazine's November/December issue (mine has just been delvered) there is a six page article in it by Kathy Mansfield all about Swallowboats. History and information on a range of their models, and some lovely photos by Kathy. In my own totally unbiassed judgement, there is a particularly fine looking boat on page 98...

What a long way SB has come since the early days.

On page 97 of the article, is says "The [BayRaider] design does, however, lack the rowing performance of the SeaRaider" Not necessarily! The SeaRaider's theoretical hull speed is 0.3 knots more than that of the BayRaider and it has a bit of a narrower beam.  However, that piffling handicap for the BayRaider can be more than compensated by other factors such as management of windage, length of oars and having a vigorous crew.  Sailing performance is another matter entirely.....

Thanks for the "heads-up". For those like myself not familiar with the WoodenBoat web site store, if you want to download the issue digitally you have to go to their "Digital Downloads" section rather than current or back issues of the Magazine (which are print versions only). Probably obvious to everyone except me!
