Storm 23
« on: 05 Feb 2014, 11:55 »
Anyone out there have ANY information about the new Storm 23 design? The buyer must know something but might be the strong, silent type.
(I hesitate to ask Matt for fear of distracting him from building it!)

The website mentions water ballast, cuddy cabin, carbon rig, swing keel....
Looks a bit like a souped up Cardigan Bay Lugger to me and as such would be VERY desirable!
I won't reiterate the sterling qualities of my CBL "Four Sisters", see the link below if you haven't heard enough already, but a longer double ender would be faster (therefore safer on coastal passages) sea kindly and, with ballast tanks full, stiff enough to carry a decent amount of sail.
Can't wait to see one in the flesh.

From a brief discussion with Matt, I got the impression that the hull is based on a BC 23 with a "pointy" stern.....

Matt Newland designed but self built 15ft one off - "Lockdown". Ex BC23 #10 "Vagabond" and BC 23 # 54 "Riff Raff"

Cheers, Rob.

Based on the BC23, Eh?
If its going to cost a similar amount and is a bit beamy/heavy to row single handed (I'm not saying it IS, not even built yet!) you would need to have fairly specific qualities to choose it over the BC23.
ie big cockpit for family sailing, inshore fishing and so on.
It might make a pretty good 2-up Raid boat, too.
