Weymouth Rally 2015
« on: 04 Jan 2015, 16:15 »
Is anyone interested in a 2015 repeat of the Weymouth Rally (well, hopefully we won't repeat everything  ;))? I'm happy to organise again if there's interest. Probably same format as before - launch Friday or Saturday, sail through to Sunday and go out for dinner on the Saturday night.

Urmmm.... I'll think about it. Others might only think about it if I don't. Or I may get a polite private message from Jonathan, to the effect of 'please don't'. (Only joking....?)

Michael - It would be great to see you again in Weymouth and we can all put in to practice the lessons we learnt last year. On which note, I got a PLB for Christmas from my wife!

David - I fudged/avoided the question of dates because I don't know my own holiday plans for 2015 yet. The 27/28 June seems to fit with other rallies and while it might preclude some because it is immediately before the Mylor event perhaps others might like to come to Weymouth on the way to Mylor? Or we could do earlier in June if there are people who aren't going to Ullswater but would like a southern alternative? There are no events in July (other than Mylor on the first w/e) or August and while that is holiday season we could do something then if there's sufficient interest. But June seems the better option...

Jonathan, I would personally prefer a gap between Weymouth and Mylor. And as someone who has just moved south and therefore won't be going to Ullswater this year, if there were enough like-minded 'southerners' as you suggest, that might work?

Hello Jonathan

I appreciate the problems of mid summer dates. My last Class moved their Championship for July to later in the year to get away from school holidays etc.

I have sympathy with Michael's comments. The empty weekend between Ullswater and Mylor looks attractive. If you are looking at Weymouth SC, they are currently putting together their 2015 Open Meeting programme.

So that would make three of us!

Weymouth will be a great venue, I'd like to come!  But may I suggest a date in July or August?  June has become quite crowded and many people who have expressed interest in Ullswater (13-14 June) either live closer or halfway between Ullswater and Weymouth, presenting them with a difficult dilemma...

July or August is also easier from a school holidays point of view.

Regards

I am spending most of the summer sailing the south coast, so I am flexible.

Roll on summer!

July/August works for me and it would be good to have a rally during this time given that there's nothing between Mylor and Bala. I don't yet know my summer holiday plans so will expedite that conversation with my wife and come back with some dates. But let me know if there are any dates you prefer or cannot do so I can try to suggest something that works for most people.

There's a possibility (yet to be confirmed) that Raid England will take place in the week beginning 7th September.  Possibly even at Weymouth? That would effectively put the kibosh on a Swallow Boats gathering in Bala at the end of that week. I wouldn't want to do both and I'm supposed to be, er, not in any legal sense organising Bala.

Hello Graham

I presume the conflict is the "as ever" one of scheduling.

You have my sympathy.

David,

I may suggest later in September if there is enough enthusiasm.

Can i propose the weekend of 17th/18th/19th of July for this event, i have now commited to booking accommodation for this period and will be taking my BR20 down. Please advise if you would like to join me on this weekend and i will speak to the sailing academy to ask about using the slip and trailer storage.

I will quite probably be there too Peter.
My rather loose plans are to go up to Weymouth from Mylor, spending a week or so at each venue.
