Swallow Yachts Raid 2016
« on: 09 Oct 2015, 17:48 »
I am pleased to announce that, after the success of last year, Swallow Yachts are returning to Falmouth in 2016 for their second annual Raid.

The dates for your diary are Mon 27 Jun to Fri 1 Jul 2016.  It will follow a similar format to last year with launching on the Monday, three days of sailing to different locations for lunch, and recovery of the boats on Friday.  Each evening, dinner will be laid on in Castaways restaurant overlooking Mylor Yacht Harbour where the boats will be moored.

Light-hearted competition will be available each day to those who wish to partake, with separate classes for the smaller boats with oars and the larger ones without.  Accomodation options range from a campsite dedicated to Raid participants just a few hundred yards along the foreshore, local B&Bs/self catering, to just sleeping on your boat in the marina.

If you're new to all this, us Swallow Boaters (or should that be Swallow Yachters!) are a friendly bunch and there will always be help at hand.  So, put the date in your diary and come and join us for a great week of sailing and socialisation!

BOOKINGS ARE NOW BEING TAKEN!  Proposed programme/costs and booking forms are available here to download or email me at events@swallowyachts.com.  Be aware, we may have to limit the numbers to around 25 boats and the campsite only takes 12 units.

*UPDATE*

I've updated the list of boat entries.  We have 24 boats coming!  But we do need help with crewing the second safety boat... any willing volunteers will be welcomed with open arms and generous terms!

Definitely very keen and a definite yes with typical caveat that I have no idea what will be happening that far in the future!

Hello, now that I have actually had the boat on a trailer I'm feeling more adventurous!  Please add me to the participants list.  I will sleep on the boat,

Hi Helen

I might actually appear this year!

Are dates firm enough to book accommodation?

Hi Helen

Please provisionally book me in with Gladys. Hopefully Andrew "The Sailing Master" can come too.

BTW - Looks like Ullswater will be 14th-15th May - I'll confirm this on the Ullswater 2015 thread when Glenridding Sailing Centre have checked their diary.

Hi Helen,
Please put me on the very keen list though I'll have to do some family consultation on the dates and will confirm before long.

Hi Helen,

I'm definitely interested in this but is there any chance it could include a weekend next year? For those with school-age children it's difficult to attend on weekdays outside of school holidays. If the Raid included a weekend then I would be keen to come for that part of the week.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I'll take another attempt at participating please Helen.
Notwithstanding the exigencies of the service of course..

The intention would be to live aboard.

We would echo Jonathan's comments - would like to come for a long weekend - but struggle to get time off on early summer weekdays

Many thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest so far.  I will make sure that further information and booking forms are sent out to you as soon as they become available.

The dates have been finalised, so please feel free to go ahead and book shore accomodation if required - if you prefer to camp or sleep on board we will sort that out for you when you book.

I understand the problem for those with school age children.  Apparently, it is far too busy at Mylor in the summer holidays for us to have the restaurant or marina space, but I will put forward the suggestion of including a weekend in future events to the powers that be.
