Glue business
« on: 29 Jun 2014, 22:50 »
The wooden part on the bottom of the Mizzen mast on my BRe came off on my last sail. If you remember the top part of the mast track came off and Mat sent me a glue and it seems to have stayed on since it was fixed.  It seems that I have a problem with glues on my boat.  What kind of glue should I use for this Mizzen mast?  Would an epoxy glue from B&Q do the job or there is a special glue for this job.   Could I drive a screw through the bottom part of the mast going through the wooden part? or could that weaken this part? any advice would be appreciated.

This hasn't happened to me but my gut feeling is that I would use a good epoxy glue to re-secure the wooden insert. That should surely be sufficient. If it fails again then I would add a screw (& re-expoxy) but I would also be concerned as to why glue hadn't done the job previously. It's probably worth speaking to Matt to get his view.
